FAQs
What is a snag?
'Snag' is a term for an issue (defect) present after all building works are complete.
Is a snagging survey necessary?
Snagging is essential.
Homes are built rapidly across the UK, and snagging surveys ensure that the industry standards are adhered to for first-time buyers or those looking to move into a new-build property.
Snagging surveys also ensures that the organisations are responsible for delivering industry standards. This is an outlook organisations are encouraged to have ahead of time during the build to promote quality when building a house - soon to be someone’s home.
What do IPW Surveying Services deliver in the snagging survey?
We begin externally by inspecting the technicals and quality from ground level up to the top of the structure and gardens, garages, drives and patios.
Following this, we move onto the internals, usually starting upstairs with the loft space first, to the smallest bedroom, other bedrooms and potential ensuites, leading onto the main bathrooms, landing, down the stairs and then moving through the entire ground floor of the property.
When should I have the snagging survey completed?
A snagging survey can occur before completion or when you have moved into your property. You have up to 2 years of warranty, so builders and developers must rectify the snags identified at your property.
How long does the snagging inspection take?
The time at your property depends on the size and how many defects are present. Typically, we account for a 3-hour appointment for a 1-2 bedroom property and around 5 hours on a four bedroom property.
